Article with Aimee Monaco | Menstrual Cycle Coach & Natural Fertility Educator: What To Do When Your Hormones Feel Unbalanced

As women, we move through life in a cyclical rhythm and with that, the way we feel day to day, one week to the next naturally shifts too.

One week you might feel unstoppable, bursting with energy and ready to take on the world (hello ovulation!!). The next, your body might be calling you inward, craving rest, blankets, and stillness (period incoming). When your hormones are in balance, this rhythm feels beautiful, supportive, and deeply empowering.

But when your hormones are out of balance, that same cycle can feel like chaos and disruption.

And the signs show up in your body as symptoms such as:

  • Tender breasts
  • Intense mood swings
  • Fatigue
  • Bloating or painful cramps
  • Breakouts before your bleed
  • Heavy or irregular cycles

These symptoms are not the problem. They’re messages, they’re your body’s way of saying hello something isn’t right and I really need support.

While these experiences are common, they should never be normalised as just part of being a woman. You are not one of the unlucky ones, your body is just asking you to listen, to give it the attention it needs.

Your cycle can feel smooth, calm, and beautiful.

I want you to know and truly feel that being a woman is your superpower and when you support your hormones, shifting them back into balance, you get to live in that power every day.

So how do you bring your hormones back into balance?

If you want to finally say goodbye to your symptoms, the first step isn’t fixing it’s coming home to your body.

Before we can address what’s going on, we need to reconnect. To notice our patterns. To understand when symptoms are arising, how intense they feel, and what might be triggering them.

My number one tip: Start tracking your cycle on paper.

Each night, take a moment with pen and paper to reflect on how your body felt that day. This simple ritual becomes the bridge back to yourself, helping you collect the data your body is already giving you.

Once you’re in tune with your cycle, the next step is learning to live with it, not against it. By  cycle syncing.

Because as cyclical beings, our hormones ebb and flow each month and so should the way we move, eat, live, rest, and sleep. We need to be approaching it from a holistic lends, always.

Lastly, but most importantly let’s talk stress.

You can be eating all the right foods and doing all the right things, but if your body and nervous system are stuck in a constant state of stress, you’re never going to achieve the results you desire.

Your body is extremely intelligent. When stress is high, your system prioritises survival which means your sex hormones take a back seat while your body focuses on managing that stress load.

This is why understanding where stress is showing up in your life is just as important as tracking your cycle and what’s on your plate. And it’s why learning how to regulate your nervous system is pivotal in your hormonal healing journey.

Practices like grounding, breathwork, meditation, EFT tapping, or gentle movement are incredible tools to bring your body back into calm in the moment. But the real shift happens when you start making lifestyle changes that prevent you from living in a constant state of stress in the first place.

When you do this, your body will feel safe again, your hormones will finally start to do what they’re designed to do, and you will see the most changes in your overall health.

At the end of the day, your hormones are something to work with, not something to fight against. They’re your body’s way of communicating with you. The symptoms you’re experiencing are not random and you’re not unlucky. Your symptoms are messages pointing you toward what needs support.

In a world that tells you to push through it, hustle harder and demonises rest, it’s time to push back, come home to your body and break free from the conditioning you were raised on.

By learning to reconnect with your body, honour your cyclical nature, and create an environment where stress no longer runs the show, you’ll start to see just how beautiful your cycle and your life can truly be. Because after all, I’ll say it again being a woman is undeniably your biggest superpower.

With love,

Aimee
